Controversial US Senate candidate Joe Arpaio questions Obama's birth certificate

Joe Arpaio speaks at his office on Jan. 10 2018

Gardner was publicly critical and refused to support controversial Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, who was accused of sexual assault by multiple women, many of whom were teenagers at the time of the alleged incidents.

Cuomo asked Arpaio, "Was the birtherism a mistake?"

"Now you're bringing that up", Arpaio said during the tense back-and-forth live on the network. "I don't care if I lose elections or anything", he said during a sitdown with WABC Radio's Rita Cosby and Curtis Sliwa. "Nobody will talk about it".

"My idea was, when you come across these people, deport them", Arpaio said.

Arpaio said Trump's agenda fueled his desire to run for the Senate said, but said "people are not going to vote for me just (for) being pro-Trump".

"No doubt about it".

"We have the evidence", he added.

Arpaio was also closely linked to the "Birther Movement", which peddled the falsehood that Obama was not born in the United States.

The former six-term sheriff of metro Phoenix also said he and Trump have both been persecuted by the U.S. Department of Justice. He said there were many questions that needed to be resolved.

During that time, the conspiracy that Obama had faked his birth certificate gained traction, with Donald Trump being the highest profile name to give it legs.

Arpaio's Cold Case Posse, comprised of volunteer law enforcement professionals, examined the printed image that Obama released and found nine points that corresponded with another document, suggesting strongly a forgery.

Arpaio announced on Tuesday that he is running for to replace Sen. Jeff Flake will retire from at the end of the year.

The former top cop's decision to enter the Senate race came as a surprise to some Democrats, who thought Arpaio's career had ended in 2016. But the teeth of SB 1070 consisted of requiring that state law-enforcement officers attempt to determine an individual's immigration status during a "lawful stop, detention or arrest" when there is reasonable suspicion that the individual is an illegal immigrant. "I want power out of Washington, D.C. and the federal government slashed down to minimal size", he continued. Read Andrew Napolitano's warning that "It is unsafe to be Right when the Government is Wrong".

The beef between Flake and Arpaio is not just political, but personal.

"The liberal Left attacks the rights of law abiding gun owners - but doesn't even bat an eye while so-called "doctors" slaughter millions of unborn children in their mother's womb every single year".

During the next 23 years, Arpaio built his reputation as the "World's Toughest Sheriff" by treating his prisoners as prisoners instead of guests.

Arpaio refused to go into the details but he believed he had enough evidence to support his claims, CNN reported.
