'Multiple' Deputies Hit in Colorado Shooting, Officials Say

The DC Sheriff's Office said via its Twitter account that shots were fired in the course of the investigation and "multiple" deputies were injured.

Riehl posted a YouTube video December 13 calling for the firing of Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock and railing against him in highly personal terms, The Associated Press previously reported.

Authorities say a Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy has died, and four deputies and two civilians were hurt, in a New Year's Eve confrontation in Highlands Ranch, Colo. It wasn't immediately clear what led to the suspect firing at the officers- having fired no less than 100 gunshots at responding deputies in what is now suspected to have been an 'ambush attack'.

Officer Parish's body was escorted from hospital by a procession of dozens of law enforcement vehicles late on Sunday morning.

Deputy Parrish, who had been with the Sheriff's Office just seven months, had "no ability to survive" his injuries, according to Sheriff Spurlock.

"We have multiple officers down", Douglas County Sheriff Deputy Jason Blanchard initially told the Denver Post.

Hundreds gathered Monday night for a candlelight vigil for Parrish, attended by his wife and two young daughters.

The sheriff's office issued a "Code Red," instructing residents in the area to shelter in place.

An emergency shelter has been set up at the East Ridge Rec Center, located at 9568 University Blvd.in Highlands Ranch, for those affected by the incident and in need of assistance. All of the officers were shot very quickly and went down within seconds of each other, Spurlock continued.

BREAKING: Multiple Deputies Down In Colorado; Residents Told To Shelter

UW Police Chief Mike Samp said it's possible that Colorado authorities faced the same dilemma as Wyoming officials when an apparently mentally ill person makes indirect threats.

Parrish's first law enforcement job was at the Morrison Police Department, where he served as a reserve officer from June 28, 2014, until the end of that year.

The company is now donating to the Douglas County Sheriff's Fallen Officer Fund.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office said the deputy killed was a 29-year-old father, Zackari Parrish.

A candlelight vigil is scheduled at 5 p.m. Monday for a Colorado sheriff's deputy who was gunned down after responding to a disturbance call in suburban Denver early Sunday.

The other three deputies are in stable condition, according to Sheriff Spurlock.

President Donald Trump offered his condolences to the victims of the shooting.

A GoFundMe page to help Parrish's family has so far raised more than $30,000 as of Sunday afternoon.
