Andre Villas-Boas in Hospital After Dakar Crash

The former Chelsea manager was competing in the event for the first time this year

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has been admitted to hospital after crashing out of the Dakar Rally on Tuesday, ending his first attempt at the legendary cross-continent race.

Boas, who was ranked 41st out of 88 drivers after the 3rd stage, made a promising start to his first Dakar Rally but injury meant that the 40-year-old had to withdraw from the event.

British competitor Sam Sunderland also dropped out on stage four and was taken to hospital.

Rep. Darrell Issa will not seek re-election
California holds a jungle primary, which means the top two finishers - regardless of party - advance to the general election. Republicans, meanwhile, say they will benefit from the fight between the Democrats seeking to claim the seat.

Villas-Boas later took to Instagram to confirm he and his co-driver Ruben Faria had withdrawn from the race. It said: "Just to tell everyone that both me and [co-driver] Ruben [Faria] are safe and well and back in the bivouac". And things were going so well: as Pardeep had mentioned in the Hoddle a couple of days ago, Villas-Boas was middle of the pack, driving a Toyota Hilux pickup truck, as late as two days ago. "The Dakar unfortunately is finished for us." he wrote. And perhaps it was more fun to crash into a Peruvian sand dune than it was dealing with players like Oscar and Hulk in a Chinese football league.

Among those fatalities, 19 were motorcycle related, 6 vehicle related, 1 truck related, and 2 competitors died as a result of local rebel conflict.
