2 militants, civilian killed in J&K gunfight

Intensifying Operation All Out, security forces killed two militants in a brief gunfight at Larno area of Kokarnag in South Kashmir's Anantnag district on Tuesday.

Sources said that Army's Rashtriya Rifles and special operations group (SOG) of J&K police launched a search operation in Larnow, Kokernag, after specific input about presence of three militants there.

When security forces were zeroing in on the target, militants hiding in the area opened a heavy volume of fire.

Khodweni in Kulgam was the native place of the slain militant.

"The victims were identified as Muhammad Furhan and Muhammad Farham, both local militants". Of them, Khalid Ahmed Dar, 22, who was shot in the neck, succumbed to his injury at the Kulgam district hospital, the officer said.

The police said that Farhan was a "hardcore stone-pelter turned militant" against whom several cases were registered in Kulgam police stations.

The operation was still underway as reports last came in. A native of Kudwani, Wani had joined militancy in June 2017.

Soon after the news of Farheen's killing reached Khodweni, hundreds of youth hit the streets and held protest demonstrations against his killing.

Some civilians pelted stones at an Army camp in Kudwani, even as few militants hidden in the mob fired at it, claimed police. "The fire was retaliated", he said. Train services were also suspended on the Srinagar-Banihal track later in the day.
