
Mitt Romney was diagnosed with prostate cancer last summer and underwent successful surgical treatment, according to sources close to the former MA governor who said the issue is not expected to have any bearing on his decision whether to run for US Senate in Utah.
Romney's treatment, which involved surgery at the University of California-Irvine Medical Center, was successful, and he has a good prognosis, the sources said.
"Last year, Governor Mitt Romney was diagnosed with slow-growing prostate cancer", an aide said.
A Romney aide added that the cancer was removed surgically and did not spread beyond the prostate. Orrin Hatch of Utah, who recently said he would retire.
The former MA governor and presidential candidate has a home in Utah and deep ties to the state, including through his Mormon faith.
Romney - who owns homes in both states - changed the location on his Twitter account from MA to Utah the day Hatch announced his retirement.
