Trump disbands voter fraud commission, says Homeland Security will take over investigation

Kobach said Wednesday he will continue advising officials on election fraud issues after President Donald Trump's decision to disband his election integrity commission.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of NY called the commission "a front to suppress the vote" and to "perpetrate unsafe and baseless claims" on Wednesday night.

From the beginning, the commission has been heavily criticized for seeking massive amounts of voter data from every state.

On Wednesday, the White House said in a statement it was shutting down the bipartisan panel that Trump established in May to look into allegations of fraud in the 2016 contest, saying many states had refused to provide data.

"Rather than engage in endless legal battles at taxpayer expense, today President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order to dissolve the Commission, and he has asked the Department of Homeland Security to review its initial findings and determine next courses of action". "Virginia conducts fair, honest, and democratic elections, and there is no evidence of significant voter fraud in Virginia".

But many states, citing their own voter privacy laws, refused to provide the commission data on their voters without an act of Congress.

His rival Hillary Clinton won three million more votes overall than Trump in results that were certified by the Federal Election Commission.

Louisiana businesses that bank off the extra buyers say they know they'll take a hit but aren't anxious about it. No one has won the big prize since a lucky customer matched all six numbers on October 13 to claim $42 million.

Critics also viewed the commission as part of an attempt to distract from the ongoing investigations into Russian election meddling and potential collusion between Moscow and Trump campaign aides.

President Trump isn't one to take a setback silently.

Dunlap says that moving the inquiry to DHS is "utterly alarming".

"Stopping voter fraud is one of the most important things the Secretary of State's office can do", said Kobach.

Though Trump was powerless to save his commission, he also trumpeted his own global abilities, claiming credit for the resumption of long-stalled discussions between South Korea and North Korea.

A number of voter fraud cases have been recorded over the years, including 742 criminal vote-fraud convictions recorded by the Heritage Foundation since 2000.

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach has filed two more criminal complaints charging individuals with crimes involving voter fraud. "These prosecutions will help deter voter fraud in the future".
