Pakistan Govt Request to Facebook for Restricting Content Rise Sharply

The majority of those restrictions - about 20,506 - came from a request to pull down a video depicting a 15-year-old student shooting at his teacher and students in Monterrey.

The social network first introduced the reports, which give raw figures on data requests and data granted, in 2013 to help increase visibility on government behavior.

The ninth Facebook transparency report also showed that government requests for information about users increased 21 percent worldwide compared with the second half of 2016, from 64,279 to 78,890.

In addition to our new section on intellectual property, we are also providing our usual twice-a-year update on government requests for account data, content restrictions based on local law, and information about internet disruptions in the first half of this year.

Government of Pakistan has made 1,039 requests for total request.

Facebook did not supply data about earlier periods or release individual requests, a level of detail that advertising rival Alphabet provides for requests to remove Google search results.

The amount of data restricted by Facebook to governments also shot up in the first half of 2017 to reach 28,036, up from 6,944 the previous quarter and 9,666 one year prior. That's particularly true in the U.S.

Over half of those requests, some 57% of them included a non-disclosure order that stops Facebook from notifying the account holder of the request of data from the government.

Compared to the first half of 2016, where the number of requests stood at 6,324, this is almost a 55 per cent jump for 2017.

Facebook also took action against more than 300,000 counterfeit content marketed and sold across its platforms, and took down almost 150,000 pieces of trademark infringing content. Facebook received between 0 to 499 NSLs in the first half of 2017 concerning 500 to 999 users. On Instagram, it took action against 108,094 posts following 10,231 counterfeit claims.
