State police trooper shot in head in Jeffersonville

The ISP trooper was rushed to University Hospital Tuesday night

Police say the trooper chased Kays before he got away but was arrested at his Jeffersonville home.

"Our ISP family appreciates all the prayers overnight concerning Trooper Evans", Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Todd Ringle wrote on Twitter.

Investigators don't yet know if Evans's shots wounded Kays or if Kays was wounded by his own gun or debris from the shots fired.

The trooper was grazed in the head, according to ISP, and was alert and conscious while en route to University Hospital in Louisville.

The shooting happened around 7 p.m. near East Park Place and Main Street in Jeffersonville, Indiana, in Clark County.
