Whistleblower: Michael Flynn Said That Russian Sanctions Would Be

Michael Flynn sent a text to a business partner as President Donald Trump was delivering his inaugural address last January that a joint plan between Russian Federation and Flynn's business allies to build nuclear power plants in the Middle East was "good to go".

In his letter, he asked Representative Trey Gowdy, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, to subpoena the White House for "all documents - including emails and text messages sent on personal devices" related to Flynn's foreign contacts.

Minutes into Trump's inauguration speech, Flynn also texted the ex-partner, who wanted to work with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors across the Middle East, that the plan, threatened by Obama's sanctions, was "good to go".

Mr. Cummings sent the letter to the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Committee, Trey Gowdy, Republican of SC, and asked him to investigate the whistle-blower's claims. These grave allegations compel a full, credible, and bipartisan congressional investigation, ' Cummings wrote.

The whistle-blower told Mr Cummings that he saw a text from Flynn that was sent on Jan 20 "approximately ten minutes" into Mr Trump's speech when Flynn was sitting in the audience.

Minutes after Trump had been sworn in, Copson told the whistleblower that he had received a text message from Flynn saying that they were "good to go" and to contact his other partners to "let them know to put things in place". The whistle-blower, Mr. Cummings said, is willing to meet with Mr. Gowdy if he agrees to protect the person's identity. He added, "This is going to make a lot of people very wealthy".

Flynn's lawyer did not respond to a request for comment on the latest claims.

Other hedge funds also recently bought and sold shares of the company. 19 funds opened positions while 52 raised stakes. The firm owned 305,043 shares of the retailer's stock after acquiring an additional 3,465 shares during the period.

According to Mr Cummings's letter to Mr Gowdy, Mr Copson then told the whistle-blower, "Mike has been putting everything in place for us".

"I do not bring this whistle-blower to your attention lightly", Mr. Cummings said.

Flynn pleaded guilty on Friday to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his discussions with the Russian ambassador about sanctions during the transition.

The letter went on to say that "Mr. Copson explained that General Flynn was making sure that sanctions would be "ripped up" as one of his first orders of business and that this would allow money to start flowing into the project". Copson was working at the time with Flynn on a project to build nuclear reactors in the Middle East, and Flynn reported in August that he served as an "advisor" to Copson's company between 2015-2016.

Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, the ranking Democrat on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said Wednesday the whistleblower's allegations raise concerns that Flynn improperly aided the nuclear project after joining the White House as one of Trump's top national security officials.

As part of his plea deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating alleged collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, Flynn agreed to be a cooperative witness in exchange for avoiding prosecution on other charges that might be related to his involvement with Russian Federation during the campaign, the presidential transition and his brief stint as national security adviser.
