#MeToo Movement Is Person Of The Year, 'Time' Says

The #MeToo Movement brought attention to the problem of sexual harassment

And now the #MeToo movement has been named Time magazine's Person of the Year for 2017. They've had it with men who use their power to take what they want from women.

The publication's editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal announced the selection Wednesday on the "Today" show, along with a cover showing actress Ashley Judd, singer Taylor Swift and former Uber engineer Susan Fowler. In the end, however, it was women who made a firm stance against sexual harassment and assault won it.

President Donald Trump was runner-up of the prestigious ranking, ahead of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

Trump, the victor in 2016, came in second for the honor.

TIME said "the silence breakers" have allowed America to start asking the right questions, but there's still a long way to go before harassment is eradicated. Like 2017's shortlist, 2016 also included larger groups, including the CRISPR scientists, who created technology to edit DNA, and the Flint whistleblowers, who exposed lead poisoning in the MI town's water.

Trump claimed last month that the magazine told him he was the likely victor for the second consecutive year, which Time later disputed. Only Mao Zedong has previously been so honored. Named crown prince of Saudi Arabia by his father, King Salman, Mohammed bin Salman is a dynamic member of the ruling family of the Middle East's wealthiest nation. He said last month that he was turning the honor down, tweeting that Time "called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named" person of the year, if he agreed to an interview and photo shoot.

Patty Jenkins earned a spot on Time's shortlist because she directed the blockbuster "Wonder Woman", becoming the first female director of an American studio superhero movie.
