Swiss prosecutors open criminal proceedings against PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi

Al-Khelaifi welcomes world record signing Neymar to PSG back in August

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the Qatari president of Paris Saint-Germain, is facing criminal proceedings in Switzerland in connection with the award of media rights for certain countries at the FIFA World Cup.

"The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland has opened a criminal proceeding against the former Secretary General of Federation Internationale de Football Association and against the Chief Executive Officer of the BEIN MEDIA GROUP LLC in connection with the award of World Cup media rights", said the statement on Thursday from Swiss prosecutors, referring to Valcke and Al-Khelaifi.

Valcke was alleged to have received "undue advantages" from the businessman, who was not identified, to award "media rights for certain countries" for four World Cups from 2018 through 2030.

Addresses in France, Greece, Italy and Spain have been raided in relation to the investigation.

Swiss prosecutors said the action was carried out with Eurojust, a European Union agency for cooperation in criminal matters.

Oneok Inc (NYSE:OKE) Q2 2017 Sentiment Change

The investigation into Al-Khelaifi was reportedly opened in March 2017 and is being conducted in partnership with French, Greek, Italian and Spanish authorities.

The case stemmed from a wider investigation of FIFA's business that saw criminal proceedings opened against Valcke in March 2016.

Valcke's fall from grace came as part of a massive corruption scandal that shook FIFA's foundations, with Blatter banned for six years on charges relating to a two million Swiss francs (1.8 million euros) payment to then-UEFA chief Michel Platini.

Valcke, who worked for FIFA between 2007 and 2015, is now serving a 10-year ban from football - issued by the FIFA Appeal Committee in June 2016 - after being embroiled in the corruption scandal that hit football's governing body in 2015.
