Trump knocks Iran deal after Tehran tests missile

The US president has always been a vocal critic of the Iranian nuclear deal.

The diplomats said the deal is in the national security interests of their countries, the Middle East and the world. Iran has committed itself never to develop nuclear weapons both as a member of NPT and in the deal itself'. His ambassador to the U.S. Gerard Araud allayed concerns about the expiring limits Monday. At the UN General Assembly, during a meeting last week of all parties to JCPOA, he said, "there was a very clear message" from Iran, China and Russian Federation "saying no way, there won't be any re-opening of the agreement, the agreement is working as it is", Araud said.

Although he would not comment on the relationship between Iran and North Korea, commander of U.S. Strategic Command, General John Hyten, said that when the United States takes action somewhere, attention is paid elsewhere too.

The next review is due on October 15, and Trump, who has been outspoken in criticizing the deal negotiated by his predecessor Barack Obama, is trying to avoid certifying Iran's compliance, despite having done so twice so far.

In his address at the UN General Assembly last week, Trump repeated his criticism of the deal.

"We can not let a murderous regime continue these destabilizing activities while building risky missiles, and we can not abide by an agreement if it provides cover for the eventual construction of a nuclear program", Trump told the Assembly.

Iran has all options on the table, including pulling out of the 2015 nuclear agreement and bolstering its nuclear program at a "greater speed", should President Trump decertify the pact, Foreign Minister Javad Zarif told CNN. "Frankly, that deal is an embarrassment to the United States". Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia and Yemen were left on the travel ban list issued earlier. "It's succeeding, and we would say, let's carry on with that ... but let's keep the [nuclear deal]". Trump took the opportunity to again emphasise that Iran's belligerence shows no respect for the nuclear deal. "I can think of no regional issue that would not be even more hard to handle if Iran possessed nuclear weapons", O'Sullivan said. The report pointed out that this is why he was executed one year after the conclusion of JCPOA negotiations.

"If we're going to stick with the Iran deal there has to be changes made to it". With "80 million people, you can't just wish it away", he said. He meant that every move made by the USA delivers a strategic message to adversaries across the world.

He urged the Trump administration to consider the broader context of their actions.

Sanctions are ineffective. They don't lead to regime change, as when US tried with Cuba, and they don't hinder the targeted country's ability to produce nuclear energy, like with North Korea. "It would send a signal that diplomacy is not reliable ... that would affect our credibility in the West when we're not honoring an agreement that Iran has not violated".

"What I've noticed over the past two or three months is a genuine and really quite serious intensification of contacts amongst us Europeans, but also with the experts in this administration-on how to increase the pressure on Iran, on what we might do about the sunset clauses, what we might do about intensifying inspections, and what we might do about what Iran is doing in the region", said U.K.'s ambassador to the United States Kim Darroch. Zarif denied there is a sunset clause in the deal, calling the claim a myth.
